Submission Guidelines for Authors
Authors must follow the guidelines below when submitting work for publication:
- All submissions, and accompanying cover materials, must be in English.
- All contributions must be original, previously unpublished material.
- Submissions must not be under consideration for any other publication while being considered for publication by the EHRR.
- The length of submissions should not exceed 15,000 words for articles, 1,000 words for research bulletins, and 3,000 words for other items (e.g. book reviews or conference reports); these word limits are inclusive of footnotes. Submissions exceeding word limits will be considered in exceptional circumstances.
- The first footnote should include a short statement (maximum 4-5 lines) about the author, including the author's title, position and key qualifications, as well as a brief acknowledgment of any assistance received during the research underpinning the article or in the writing of the article. This footnote is removed before the article is sent out for peer review, along with the author's name and other information from which the author could be easily identified: the EHRR uses a blind review process.
- Submissions should be accompanied by an abstract of no more than 250 words. At the bottom of the abstract, the author should list three to five key words to help classify the submission for the purposes of citation indices.
- All submissions must follow the EHRR Style Sheet.
- All submission should be in electronic form and should be emailed to editor@ehrr.org or editorSI@ehrr.org for the 2011 Special Issue. Submissions must be sent as email attachments, not in the body of the email.
In the first instance, the Editorial Board filters articles to determine generic acceptability in terms of content and style. Next, the article is anonymously reviewed by at least two EHRR reviewers. Finally, the Editorial Board reads the reviewer reports and decides whether to:
accept the article for publication, or
accept the article for publication subject to revisions, or
recomend that the paper be rewritten and resubmitted, or
reject the article as unsuitable for publication in the EHRR.
Note that once a submission has been accepted, the author (or all authors for multiple author submissions) must submit a Copyright Transfer Form. This can be done online here by reading the Terms and Conditions, completing the form at the bottom of the page and selecting the 'Yes, I agree to the Copyright Transfer Terms and Conditions above' button, then clicking the 'submit' button.
The Editorial Board reserves the right to publish, or refuse publication to, any submission, before or after the review process, and irrespective of the nature of any available review reports. For Special Issues and solicited submissions, the Editorial Board reserves the right to waive the review process.
